"If you try to individualize Edward Putintsev in brief, you may use just the words - affability and devotion to work..."

Director of the Scientific – Research Institute of the Theory and History of Architecture, Associate Member of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences, Honorary Architect of Russia

«Since the cradle a genius of songs blazed in us» - who does not know these undying lines of Pushkin. And in projects and aquarelles made by Putintsev there always blazed and still blazes a genius of wandering, adventures, searching for «tracks yet unbeknown and beasts yet unseen».
A well-known architect and scientist Putintsev designed and built by the Volga-river and in Noukous, in Kharkov and Dniepropetrovsk, in Guelenjik and Moscow, in Bukhara and Mongolia, Ghana and Jakutia. But the project that has become his real life-work and has not dwindled even in an essentially new period of the development in the home and world architecture, which arrived at the end of the XXth century, was the project of a settlement for 4.5 thousand inhabitants named Aikhal / Glory / at one of the diamond-fields near the Arctic Circle in Jakutia.

To the beginning of the work for this project the Muscovite from the Povarskaya Street, who had graduated the famous 110 secondary school, was already an experienced northerner and had appraised the resources and prospects of the North. He was in love with their beauty nearly impossible to portray by pencil and brush but he had already learned severities and dangers of constructing in this land of polar nights and permafrost.

May be that just unbeaten tracks and difficulties have enthralled Edward Putintsev – the graduate of the Moscow Architectural Institute, an aquarellist, traveler, alpinist, the soul of crew, public-man, to go working in Jakutsk. Then were the post graduate studies, scholarship in the Higher Royal College in Oslo, defense of a thesis and then again - Jakutia - the town of Mirniy, where at the head of the fold (architects: E.Khimin, V.Zakharov, G.Guermogenov. A.Fedorov, H.Bant and an engineer V.Ekimyan) he develops and then - in spite of the neverending severities - contests the approval of the Aikhal project, where the groups of S-storeyed dwelling houses of new types with broad bulk (17 m) are combined in an organic whole by the covered streets galleries with children's preschool institutions, a public centre, administrative and school buildings.
35 years have already passed since the moment of the Aikhal Project approval and at last this project, the model of which was awarded by the Golden medals at the World Exhibition in Montreal and of the Soviet Exhibition of the People's Economy Achievements (VDNH), and the one which seemed to be fated to nomadize from one exhibition to another and to restock a museum of «architectural chimeras» - is now close to accomplishment of the construction. How important it is to study this experience of construction and exploitation of these dwelling and public houses, of the operating principles for the enginery and power supply and - which is important no less - the people's social being and type of life in the severe conditions of the Arctic Circle.
In aquarelles and drawings by Putintsev there are always romance and love for beauty, and first of all love for nature. It is always beautiful in all states in the works of this artist - architect: winter and summer, rain or shine, a bright day or twilight, mountains and rivers, seas and plains, forestry and waterfalls.

Landscapes by Putintsev present poetical impressions on extraordinary natural, phenomena, architectural monuments from the numerous journeys to strange lands, through near and far away foreign countries - imprinted in color and drawing. All of them are marked by assurance and legibility of the compositional and color solution, by knowledge of the painting laws.

The elder son - Konstantin, graduate from the Moscow Architectural Institute - keeps on the traditions of his father.

With all our heart we want to wish him further creative successes, new discoveries and new interests.
